Congratulations You
You did it. You’re the man. You are the woman. You are the world. You are the people. I can’t thank you enough. You are the sunshine of my life. You rock. You, you, you, you, you.
You never know the impact you make on other people’s lives until Time magazine tells you so.
But remember, with recognition comes responsibility. So while Donald Trump may give Miss America a second chance after kissing another woman in public, you may not get another chance. Or will you?
You see, you will always be here. Even if you are oppressed, you can organize and rise up. You can make your views heard. You can be seen on YouTube. You can build your own network on MySpace. You can rule the world.
A union organizer once told me we cannot empower you. You already have the power. We can give you tools that enable you to use your power, but it is you who wields it. And if we are lucky, you will use your power to help us.
So you really are the person of the year. Hell, you are the person of the ages… we just didn’t know it.
We thought you were swimming in obscurity, one of E. E. Schattschneider’s Semi-Sovereign people. But the internet has changed all that.
You can blog. You can flickr. You can tube. You can email Congress.
You can be heard and seen in so many ways now that your 15 minutes of fame may turn into 15 years.
So congratulations.
Now do something useful!
