Citizen Journalist Rule: Care2 Member Scoops Mainstream Media
A member of Care2.com scooped the mainstream media when he discovered in a White House press release that President Bush is asserting the power to search through private mail of US citizens without a warrant.
As far as I know, it is a federal offense to read someone else mail without authorization, so the President’s assertion smacks of an “I am above the law” mentality.
Meanwhile, it was a citizen activists, a member of Care2.com, an online social network of nearly 7 million progressive activists, that broke the story. USA Today is running the story now and gives credit to Dave, a Care2 member who posted the story pulled fromt the White House press release.
I wonder if Dave (the Care2 member) now qualifies as a member of the “filter,” as Bush often calls the press? It seems to me that diligent citizens paying close attention to the statements issued from the Privacy-Invader-in-Chief will keep the Administration on its toes in the final 742 days, 12 hours, and 17 minutes of Bush’s term.
