User 2.0

I have been talking up a storm lately at conferences about User 2.0. I am also writing more in depth analyses of the notion, but I want to start a conversation sooner here.

User 2.0, not Web 2.0, is the real change in the way the internet impacts our lives. Yes, social networking and user generated content tools and sites are proliferating and becoming easier to use, but they are not really anything new.

What is new is the attitude of internet users. They are armed with broadband access and elevated expectations of the internet as a set of tools to deepen and widen their connections with other people.

It is this change in our culture that presents the greatest opportunity and signals the coming of version 2.0.

Look for more comments from me on User 2.0 in the coming months. In the meantime, think about what User 2.0 means to you and let me know what you think.
